Kumano Taiko Dojo

Kumano Taiko Dojo is active in Offenburg (Baden-Württemberg) and Erfurt (Thuringia) and was founded by Andreas Prescher, who has been following the path of taiko since 2007. The group is dedicated to traditional japanese taiko drumming, with a focus on Hachijodaiko and Kumidaiko, and also collaborates with musicians from other styles.

Kumano Taiko Dojo understands taiko not only as a musical form of expression but also as a holistic path where rhythm, movement, concentration, community, and the joy of playing the taiko merge. The focus is on the authentic transmission of traditional japanese taiko culture – characterized by respect, mindfulness, and the connection between body and mind.

Every movement in playing the taiko arises from a clear posture and inner presence. This involves not only technical precision but also expression, energy, and the shared experience of rhythm.

Through regular joint training, a strong community is created, where mutual respect, openness, and continuous learning are paramount.
In Kumano Taiko Dojo, a space is thus created where people of different age groups and experience levels can jointly experience the power and depth of taiko.

The group describes its ethos with the words:
"To beat the taiko until exhaustion means to refresh body, mind, and soul." – Peter Su Markus
